Rugby League fans disagree on most improved Super League player but Leeds Rhinos man stands out

There’s still plenty of rugby league to play in Super League but fans have had their say on the competition’s most improved player this year.

Among the candidates last year were newcomers Oli Leyland and Josh Rourke at London Broncos, whilst the young players thrust in at Hull FC also took huge steps forward.

As for older players, the likes of Dean Hadley and James Batchelor at Hull KR kicked on and that saw Hull KR helped to a Grand Final.

The 2025 season has seen new names emerge as contenders for the most improved player in Super League and Serious About Rugby League asked the fans who they thought had made the biggest step forward.

Among a host of answers, one name was mentioned more than most but the fact such a wide range of players were named shows how subjective rugby league is.

Who is the most improved player in Super League this year?

Rugby league fans were asked: “Which Super League player has improved the most in 2025?”, with almost 100 responses. Here are some of the best.

Lee Hughes: Harry Robertson. Gone from being an academy ptospect to a first choice with an England call up.

Dean Leng: If you’re looking at improved then Owen Trout , Lewis Martin and Jack Broadbent have to be top three.

Eddie Howgate: Technically it has to be Jake Connor all day! The player was always there, but not at all last year.

Allan White: Jake Connor amazing change in attitude has made him from already a good player into a great player.

Joe Renwick: Lachie Miller had a slow start last year at Leeds but now has to be easily one the best full backs in the comp.

Ian Cunliffe: Owen Trout, outstanding week in week out.

Jordan Newby: It’s Jake Connor all day long , current leader for the man of steel and having the best season of his career.

Michael Hanson: Trout a good shout but had to say the best improvement is from Jake Connor.
