Super League fans all say the same thing after York Knights stun Hull KR

Hull KR were stunned by York Knights in the Super League opener, losing 19-18, and rugby league fans have now had their say after the huge upset.

The Knights earned promotion to Super League after an impressive campaign in the Championship but few gave them a chance against treble winners Hull KR.

Any thought of an easy game was soon eradicated as York took the lead through former Hull KR man Sam Wood. The Robins did hit back through Jai Whitbread but the teams went into the break level at 6-6.

Another try from Whitbread and a crash score from Sauaso Sue stretched the lead to 18-6, at which point many assumed the game to be won for Hull KR, however, Mikey Lewis’ crazy sin bin shifted the momentum.

The former Man of Steel tripped Liam Harris in a blatant act and was sent for ten minutes by Liam Rush, with York scoring down his edge whilst he was off. The Knights then seized that momentum, scoring another try before Ata Hingano kicked a game-winning drop goal that made it 19-18.

In the immediate aftermath, rugby league fans have had their say with a large number pointing to Lewis’ sin bin as the pivotal moment in the Robins’ loss. Plenty were also keen to praise Mark Applegarth’s side.

What rugby league fans said after shock Hull KR loss

With over 250 comments inside 20 minutes on the Serious About Rugby League Facebook page, plenty of fans had their say.

Paul Gluck: Game changed with the sin bin.

Neil Moyes: Well done York, held in there and got the spoils. Lewis will end up missing the next game after that brain fart!

Martin Adams: Mikey Lewis cost KR the game.

James Anthony: Great effort from York, underdogs from the start but some great kicking and Mikey’s poor discipline proved costly.

Richard Watson: Well done York. Some will say KR were more interested in next week and if so, that’s their fault.

Carl Kay: Well done York, out battled and showed more desire than the Robins.

Joel Wood: Ashamed to say I wrote York off after the third try. Absolutely brilliant.

Andy Ed: Rugby league, how I’ve missed you!

Lewis Hunter: York are ready for Super League with the team they had then (in the Championship). Everything about the club is going places and good luck to them.
