Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors men among players sweating Super League disciplinary

With just a handful of games to go this Super League season, any disciplinary charges could have massive implications.

A number of players will be sweating today’s Match Review Panel with Round 23 seeing plenty of action but just one sin bin.

It was also a significant week for results as well with leaders Hull KR beaten by Leeds Rhinos, whilst both St Helens and Leigh Leopards also won as they look to keep the pressure on second-place Wigan Warriors.

Further down the table, Hull FC and Wakefield Trinity, both chasing sixth place, lost whilst Sam Burgess’ Warrington Wolves slipped to another defeat to effectively end any chances of making the play-offs.

Catalans Dragons’ long wait to get a win ended as they saw off Castleford Tigers on Saturday night but the attention quickly turns to today’s Match Review Panel and whether any players have been banned.

Who will be sweating the Super League disciplinary verdict?

Wigan Warriors’ Ethan Havard was sent to the sin bin in Sunday’s 44-2 win over Wakefield Trinity in a similar situation to that of a couple of weeks ago.

Previously, St Helens’ George Delaney made shoulder to head contact on Lachlan Walmsley but there was no on-field action, however, a Grade C charge followed.

Sunday saw Havard sent to the sin bin so he will be nervously awaiting to see what punishment awaits from the Match Review Panel.

Thursday saw the game of the week as Leeds saw off Hull KR but two of their players were involved in some incidents which could be looked at. Full-back Lachie Miller made contact with his shoulder to the head of Arthur Mourgue but was not punished, despite a lengthy video referee review.

Miller was certainly challenging for the ball but the head contact was clear so he could be sweating.

As could Keenan Palasia who went high on Jack Broadbent at one stage though there wasn’t loads in that at all.

Salford’s Finlay Yates failed a HIA of his own but also had a late hit on Lachlan Lam, something that the disciplinary panel have been clamping down on this year in Super League.
