Super League disciplinary as Hull KR star and St Helens enforcer sweating after Challenge Cup action

Super League had a week off but the two Challenge Cup semi-finals were action-packed and a number of players have been left anxiously waiting today’s disciplinary verdict.

It was Wigan Warriors and Hull KR who progressed to the final with the Warriors defeating St Helens 32-0 on Saturday, whilst Rovers saw off Warrington Wolves 32-12 on Sunday.

Both were dominant performances but that didn’t stop tempers flaring in each game with the needle of a Wigan-Saints derby inevitable, whilst there was also plenty of flashpoints in Wire’s loss to Hull KR.

To date, Warrington are the team least penalised by the Super League disciplinary system but they could have players facing charges today with all four teams having players involved in incidents that will warrant a second look by the Match Review Panel.

Super League players who are sweating today’s disciplinary verdict

Saturday’s derby clash saw a couple of flash points, both involving Junior Nsemba and Alex Walmsley, but it could be Walmsley who is worrying about disciplinary repercussions.

The St Helens man was put on his back by a dominant tackle from the Wigan man, something that triggered handbags, before Walmsley went seeking to get one back as he put a shot on Nsemba but appeared to catch him high.

Also in that game, Wigan’s Sam Eseh had a late hit on Shane Wright, with Mikey Lewis on the end of a couple of those in Sunday’s game.

First up was Ben Currie whilst Jordy Crowther also hit the former Man of Steel, however, the game was characterised by the battle between Lewis and James Bentley, both who gave as good as they got.

It’ll be down to the disciplinary panel to decide if either man gets punished for it but Lewis does already have a number of penalty points so could be sweating a ban in Super League.

Another incident of note that caused upset among the Warrington team was Elliot Minchella’s high shot on Danny Walker but Liam Moore ruled that it was not forceful, though another look will likely be had.
