Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos among Super League sides sweating disciplinary

A number of Super League clubs, including Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos, will be sweating today’s disciplinary panel after Round Eleven’s matches.

It was a round that saw every home team win with four of those wins coming by 30 points or more as the home sides dominated. Leeds Rhinos’ win over Hull FC was the closest one with Ryan Hall’s last-gasp winner being the difference at Headingley on Friday night.

Friday’s second game was the only other match that wasn’t a blowout as Wigan beat Leigh 36-28 in the Battle of the Borough, a win that pushed Matt Peet’s side to the top of Super League.

They were dislodged less than 24 hours later when Hull KR beat Huddersfield 34-0, scoring 30 of those points in the final 20 minutes. That saw them reclaim top spot in Super League but the Robins are one of the teams sweating today’s disciplinary so it could come at a cost.

Sunday saw Wakefield beat up a tired Warrington 40-10 whilst Castleford overcame Salford 48-16 but it was the first game of the week, St Helens 40-0 over Catalans, that was most impressive.

Only one yellow card was showed this weekend but another incident was placed on report and we’ve checked out the players who could be sweating today’s Super League disciplinary verdict.

Who will be sweating the Super League disciplinary verdict?

The most obvious candidate to fear the Match Review Panel is Jared Waerea-Hargreaves given that he was the only man to be sent to the sin bin. The Hull KR forward was shown yellow in the first half for a high shot on Matty English.

One issue that will impact JWH is that English was unable to return due to failing a HIA and that means that any charge from the disciplinary panel would automatically see three points added to it, something which could put the Kiwi in danger of a ban.

Alec Tuitavake was the only other man to see official action against him as he was placed on report for the crusher-style tackle that left Zach Eckersley requiring a stretcher to leave the field. Wigan have since updated that Eckersley is fine with the scans coming back clear.

Tuitavake was one of multiple men in the tackle and the referee confirmed that “there is a lot to dissect”, adding “we’re unsure if it is foul play”, which is why it was placed on report to be checked today.

Others who could be sweating today’s Super League disciplinary are Jake Connor and Rodrick Tai but neither man was punished in their respective games.

Tai could have less to worry about as both of his incidents were seen by the referee and given as penalties but neither looked pretty and there was certainly a sense around Belle Vue that he would be marching. His late shot on Rourke and his tip tackle on the full-back will surely be looked at.

As for Jake Connor, there were suggestions from Zak Hardaker and Tom Briscoe that the former Hull man had headbutted Briscoe in the tackle. Replays didn’t look good with definite head movement, though contact was unclear. Perhaps a better angle will be checked by the Match Review Panel to either absolve or punish the Man of Steel leader.
