Following Super League Magic Weekend, the RFL’s Match Review Panel have handed out their disciplinary verdict and that has seen five players charged.
There has been a flurry of red cards in Super League of late and Magic Weekend was no different as Hull FC forward Liam Knight was sent marching on the eve of half time for a reckless shoulder charge, described by his head coach as a “brain explosion”.
Two others were sent to the sin bin and another two crusher-style tackles were placed on report as Huddersfield managed to get their first Super League win of the season in a game the disciplinary panel will be sure to take a good look at.
The other sin bin this week was arguably the most controversial moment of Super League Magic Weekend as Lewis Murphy was sent for ten after kneeing Alfie Edgell in the face whilst contesting a high ball, something that caused outrage among fans and confusion for pundits.
All of the above and many more incidents have been looked over by the Match Review Panel and the Super League disciplinary verdict from Round 10 has been confirmed.
Super League Magic Weekend disciplinary with three Huddersfield Giants men charged
The major news is that Hull FC forward Liam Knight is not charged despite being the only man to be sent off, making him the third successive player to be sent off and avoid a ban following Sauaso Sue and Ash Handley in the past two weeks.
Four other players from that fiery Huddersfield Giants and Hull FC match are charge with Sam Eseh copping a Grade charge for his sin bin offence, whilst Tom Burgess, Matty English and Sam Hewitt all receive Grade B charges.
They each earn three penalty points and that takes Hewitt to the precipice of a ban onto 5.5 points, however, 1.5 of those will be removed once he pays the fine for his Dangerous Contact charge following the crusher-style tackle he was cited for.
Isaiah Vagana is the fifth and final player to be charged with the Wakefield forward handed a Grade B charge of Head Contact for his shot on Dan Okoro, something which was only deemed a penalty at the time.
A full list of the charges can be seen below.
