Super League disciplinary as five charged with forward handed two-match ban

The disciplinary verdict after Super League round nine is in with just five players charged but one of those has been handed a two-game ban.

It was a round that saw referees able to keep their cards in their pockets for the most part as just one man was sent to the sin bin and that man has now been handed a two-match ban.

Castleford Tigers’ George Lawler caught Hull FC forward Ligi Sao with a swinging arm and was promptly sat down for ten minutes. After today’s Match Review Panel meeting, they have deemed the charge worthy of a Grade D offence for head contact, thus resulting in a ban.

Lawler has also been handed an extra three penalty points because of the fact his tackle resulted in Sao failing a head injury assessment, meaning the Castleford forward picks up 15 penalty points in total.

Three other players were handed Grade B charges worth three points, including Toulouse Olympique’s full-back Olly Ashall-Bott who was pinged for head contact in his tackle on Cody Hunter.

The video referee checked that at the time but no card was shown. Another incident that was placed on report has also been punished with Caius Faatili charged for dangerous contact after his tackle on Matt Whitley.

Sam Cook of York Knights also received a Grade B charge for the same offence, whilst Huddersfield’s Chris Patolo was handed a Grade A charge for making late contact on the passer.
