Former Hull FC academy talent attracting Super League interest

Interest is growing from several Super League clubs about the signature of former Hull FC academy man Jeylan Hodgson.

Serious About Rugby League understands that the 20-year-old hooker is very well thought of among Super League clubs, with a number recently expressing interest, including Leigh Leopards.

The Leopards have one of the finest hookers in Super League on their books in Edwin Ipape, however, injury has prevented him from playing at his very best so far in 2026.

Adrian Lam’s side also signed Liam Horne from Castleford Tigers in the off-season whilst utility Ben McNamara is a depth option at number nine, but they’re understood to have shown interest in Jeylan Hodgson, the younger brother of their full-back Bailey Hodgson as well as the nephew of former England international hooker Josh Hodgson.

Leigh are not the first or the only Super League club to show interest in the Goole Vikings man with other clubs interested, and Hull KR even handing Hodgson a trial during the pre-season.

Goole head coach Scott Taylor told Serious About Rugby League in January: “Jeylan has been on trial with Hull KR, training full-time with them and he’s in Tenerife (pre-season training camp) with them now.”

No transfer came of Hodgson training with Hull KR and as such, he’s continued on at Goole where he has impressed in 13 appearances so far this season, in which he has scored two tries.

He’s also spent some time at loose forward which showcases his versatility and if a Super League club were to sign him, he wouldn’t be the first Championship addition this season with Huddersfield Giants signing Australian hooker Cole Geyer on a season-long loan from Oldham earlier this month.

The Giants are understood to have considered Hodgson with Castleford Tigers another club to have shown interest though but they added Ashton Golding to their ranks earlier this year.
