Super League club swoop to sign overseas back on 18-month deal

Super League club Toulouse Olympique have swooped to sign overseas back Ethan Quai-Ward on a deal until the end of the 2027 season.

The Olympians have recently seen Tyler Dupree’s loan period end with the Wigan man signing a permanent deal with Castleford Tigers, however, their new addition is a centre.

Ethan Quai-Ward arrives on an 18-month deal after signing from Wynnum-Manly Seagulls, for whom he had signed prior to the 2026 season.

Quai-Ward has played at a number of NRL teams and their feeder clubs with his sole NRL appearance coming for Canterbury Bulldogs in 2023, in which he scored a try.

Across the past five years, Quai-Ward has made a total of 87 appearances and scored 24 tries along the way and he now takes his talent to Super League, having signed with Toulouse Olympique.

Announcing his deal, the Super League side shared a statement confirming: “Toulouse Olympique are pleased to announce the signing of Ethan Quai-Ward until the end of the 2027 season.”

Speaking on his move to Europe, Quai-Ward said: “My partner and I are so excited to get over to Toulouse. Have done a fair bit of research through the socials on Toulouse and it looks like such a beautiful part of the world and we are super blessed to now be able to call it home.

“I can’t wait to hit the ground running and can’t wait to meet my new teammates and find ways to help make the football team better in any way possible as a rugby league player that’s all you strive for is to help do your part for a team.”

On the competition he’ll join, Quai-Ward said: “I’ve watched the Super League from afar over here in Australia and really admired the calibre of footy. Have watched a fair bit of the Toulouse teams highlights from 2026 in my spare time just being so excited to get over while still here in Australia and the boys are such an amazing footy team.

“As I said above I can’t wait to just figure out ways to implement my skill set however that may look into all the hard work my team mates have all done throughout the preseason and the season so far.”

Sylvain Houles, head coach, added: “Ethan has impressed us at the start of the season in the Queensland Cup. He is a player with strong physical qualities, capable of maintaining a high work rate for the full 80 minutes. We are looking forward to welcoming him and seeing him perform in the Super League in a Toulouse Olympique shirt.”
