Super League club Huddersfield Giants have confirmed that one of their upcoming home fixtures will be moved to a new venue, with the club pushing for a sell-out.
The Giants are one of several Super League clubs that share their home ground with a football team and that can lead to plenty of issues, namely fixture clashes or uncertainty around leases.
It’s something that the RFL have to consider when creating a fixture list, as seen by some of those clubs going on lengthy away runs in the summer when the football pitches are relaid.
As such, fixture rearrangements after the fact are rare but not unique, and that’s the case for Huddersfield as they have announced that their match on Saturday, 6th June at home to Toulouse has been moved.
Re-seeding is taking place at the Accu Stadium so the club have had to change venue and that means they’re going back to a stadium that they utilised in June last year.
Huddersfield Giants to play Super League match at Dewsbury again
The Giants have confirmed that they will host Toulouse at Dewsbury’s Flair Stadium, the same venue that they played Wigan Warriors at in round 14 of last year’s campaign.
Huddersfield almost held on for a famous win that day but a late Jack Farrimond try saw Wigan nick the game 22-18, however, the result saw plenty of positive talk about the merits of the Giants playing at a smaller stadium.
Owner Ken Davy has made it clear that he intends to build a new and smaller stadium for the Giants with the atmosphere lost at the Accu Stadium given it’s large capacity compared to Huddersfield’s fanbase.
Last year’s game at Dewsbury drew an attendance of 4,182 but this year the club are expecting a sell-out of the 5,000 capacity ground.
A club statement announced: “I am writing to inform you of the plans for the Huddersfield Giants v Toulouse Olympique fixture on Saturday 6th June 2026 K.O. 3pm. As you may be aware, we are not able to play this game at the Accu Stadium, as the pitch is being re-seeded at this time. We have therefore had to relocate this game to another venue.
“We will now be playing this fixture at the Flair Stadium, home of the Dewsbury Rams. The Flair Stadium has a capacity of around 5000 is expected to sell out.”
