Super League club confirm trio of fixture amendments

One Super League club have confirmed changes to three of their upcoming fixtures with new dates announced.

Stadium availability has forced Huddersfield Giants to reschedule their Super League Rounds 23, 24 and 25 fixtures with each match now set to be played on a different date.

The Giants share their ground with Huddersfield Town Football Club and with the new football league season starting in early August, some fixtures have been moved, including an away one.

It’s been confirmed by Huddersfield that the fixtures against Warrington Wolves, Wakefield Trinity and Leeds Rhinos will all be moved on account of stadium availability.

The new dates for those games have been confirmed as follows:

Warrington Wolves – Accu Stadium, will now take place on Sunday 24th August. – 3 pm

Wakefield Trinity – DIY Kitchens Stadium, will now take place on Saturday 30th August. – 5:30 pm

Leeds Rhinos – Accu Stadium, will now take place on Thursday 4th September. – 8 pm

The Giants have confirmed that tickets remain valid for the game.

Super League fixture rescheduling shows importance of new stadium

The fact that games are being moved highlights one of the reasons, albeit a minor one, for why Huddersfield Giants want to build a new stadium.

Owner Ken Davy is intent on moving the Giants away from their current stadium which is simply too big for the club’s size, with attendances well below even half of the ground’s capacity.

It’s been proposed that Huddersfield will play at The Shay in a ground share with Halifax Panthers and Halifax Town Football Club for the 2026 season. That looks set to happen although there is a period during which it can be appealed, something that is currently ongoing.

At the same time, the Giants are looking for a new site to build a stadium on and whilst they have identified a preferred location, the Council insist it is not for a sports stadium development.

A Council spokesperson previously said: “The site at Gasworks Street is perfectly placed for investment by a business who could really capitalise on this crucial connection. On this basis, the land is a crucial component of the Station to Stadium Enterprise Corridor. At present, the site isn’t allocated for development for sports and leisure.

“In the meantime, any application put forward to develop a brand new stadium – at Gasworks Street or any other location – would need to follow our usual planning process, and we would consider these plans in detail at the point an application was submitted.”
