Super League club make “big offer” for Newcastle Knights forward

With clubs heavily focused on recruitment for 2026, one Super League club has reportedly made a “big offer” to a Newcastle Knights forward.

There has only been one confirmed NRL signing made by a Super League club for the 2026 season with Wakefield Trinity previously announcing a deal for Brisbane Broncos’ Tyson Smoothy.

On the other hand, it’s been confirmed that multiple Super League men will make the switch to the NRL with St Helens’ Morgan Knowles and Leeds Rhinos’ Morgan Gannon the latest pair to follow in the footsteps of several forwards to make the switch.

One forward who made the switch for 2025 and has had an electric start to life in the NRL is former Warrington Wolves man Matty Nicholson with the second-rower proving a standout for Canberra Raiders.

Another English second-row standout in the NRL is Kai Pearce-Paul, who is off-contract at the end of the year, but it’s one of his Newcastle Knights teammates who is making the news right now.

Mat Croker made “big offer” by Super League side

According to a report in The Daily TelegraphKnights forward Mat Croker is subject to Super League clubs ‘circling;.

Croker, 25, can play prop or lock and was the subject of some Super League interest last year before opting to sign a new one-year deal, however, that interest doesn’t seem to have waned.

Newcastle have offered him a two-year extension but it’s reported that one Super League club has made a “big offer” to gain his services, whilst the forward will also meet with another NRL side to discuss his future.

Croker would be a strong addition to the pack of any Super League team with every single team having overseas quota spots available for 2026 at the time of writing.

So far, Croker has made 65 appearances in the NRL with his most productive season coming in 2023 when he played 24 games as the Knights finished fifth and made it to the second round of the play-offs.

He made his NRL debut in 2021 and has been a mainstay for the Knights from 2022 onwards. Castleford Tigers have previously been linked with Croker.
