The Super League attendances for Round 19 of Super League have been confirmed with two games disappointing amid three impressive crowds.
Three of the six games recorded attendances above 10,000 with the game between Super League champions Wigan Warriors and Hull FC drawing close to 15,000.
The 14,427 who turned up at the Brick Community Stadium witnessed a dominant Hull FC performance with Wigan putting in another subpar performance, losing 32-12.
That allowed Hull KR to extend their lead atop Super League to four points as they beat Catalans 34-6 in front of just under 10,000, with the reported 1,600 travelling Robins fans contributing to one of Les Dracs better attendances in recent weeks.
Wigan’s loss also saw Leigh Leopards and Leeds Rhinos capitalise with their victories drawing them closer to Matt Peet’s side. Leigh beat St Helens in front of 11,805 on Thursday night before Leeds easily dispatched Salford on Friday in front of a similar-sized crowd.
Friday night also saw Wakefield keep their play-off hopes alive as they hammered Huddersfield in front of just over 5,000, albeit the ground seemed emptier as it often does. The Giants fans who did attend made their boos heard at both half and full-time, discontent with what Luke Robinson labelled the “worst performance of the season”.
Sunday’s clash between Castleford and Warrington was the last of Round 19 in Super League and drew one of the smaller attendances with just over 6,000 turning up despite the rain and the recent loss to Salford which certainly helped keep plenty of home fans away. Despite that, those who did turn up were rewarded with a passionate performance that saw Castleford win 20-14, putting a huge dent in Warrington Wolves’ play-off hopes.
