Super League attendances take steep drop as Catalans Dragons and Wigan Warriors lead the way

The Super League attendances for Round Twelve have been confirmed with a sharp drop from the impressive Round Eleven numbers.

Four of the six games in Round Eleven drew in crowds of 10,000 or more, including two that broke the 15,000 barrier. As a result, the average attendance across the six games was 11,041, one of the strongest of the Super League campaign.

Round Twelve has seen a huge drop-off with just under 20,000 less fans attending games this week with the figures dropping from 66,250 to 46,496.

Of course, crowds fluctuate depending on match-ups and which teams are at home but it’s a very steep drop-off and the fact that just one game hit 10,000 fans is another blow.

That game was at the Stade Gilbert Brutus between Catalans Dragons and Wigan Warriors with Matt Peet’s side winning 48-0 despite not being at their best, meaning it’s the second week in a row that Les Dracs have been nilled.

The other dominant performance in Round Twelve saw Wakefield Trinity defeat Salford 72-10 with 6,277 in attendance, including the Salford owners who appeared for the third game running.

Fans will be hoping that they can get control of the season and put some much-needed security and confidence among the playing group, things that are lacking and contributing to the one-sided scores of late.

Leeds beat Castleford 29-6 to move to third in Super League after Leigh lost 26-12 to Hull FC, whilst St Helens strengthened their grip on the play-offs with a 46-4 win over Huddersfield Giants in front of just over 4,000 fans.

All those results paired with their own 31-12 loss mean Warrington Wolves now sit four points outside the top six as they head towards Wembley in contrasting form to this week’s opponents Hull KR.
