The Super League attendances from Round Nine are in with the season officially one third of the way through now.
Records fell last week during Rivals Round when 86,080 fans turned out across the six games, two of which surpassed attendances of 20,0000 as Super League set a new high for a six-game round.
Understandably, the attendances in Round Nine weren’t at the same level, not least because there wasn’t as many rivalry games but also because Super League Magic Weekend comes up in a week’s time and plenty of fans will have earmarked that instead.
However, three games still surpassed 10,000 with one game almost surpassing the total of three other games combined.
The action got underway on Thursday where 10,214 watched Warrington Wolves overcome St Helens despite them losing half-back Marc Sneyd before half-time.
Friday night saw the highest crowd of the round as 16,863 turned up at Headingley and the home support looked like they’d be watching a Leeds Rhinos win, however, Hull KR scored 14 points in the last 12 minutes to secure the two points and win 20-14.
That attendance almost surpassed the combined 17,043 of Saturday’s three games with Catalans’ 8,183 the strongest of the crowds. They beat Wakefield in golden point to secure a precious two points with Leigh Leopards winning on the road at Salford 28-6 in front of 5,493.
Saturday’s earlier game marked the lowest crowd of the Super League season as just 3,367 turned up to watch Huddersfield. The Giants remained winless as Castleford handily beat them 30-12 to pick up their second win of the season.
Finally, Sunday saw one of the stronger attendances as Wigan travelled to Hull and beat the Black and Whites to move back into second in Super League.
