The Super League attendances for Round 16 have been confirmed with four five-figure crowds amid a concerning low.
Four of the six matches drew crowds of more than 10,000, helped of course by the fact that four of the best-supported sides played at home.
The two highest attendances of the round came on Friday night as three of the top four in Super League played, including third versus fourth.
That game between Leeds Rhinos and Leigh Leopards, which Brad Arthur’s side won 48-30 to reclaim third in Super League, led the way for attendances with 14,338 at Headingley.
Craven Park saw 11,146 watch on as Hull KR won to secure their best-ever start to a season in club history, winning 34-10 despite trailing early on.
Of the three games on Saturday, only one reached 10,000. Warrington beat Hull FC to keep their Super League play-off hopes alive as George Williams starred.
Over 8,000 watched Catalans bounce back as they beat Huddersfield whilst the lowest crowd of the round came at the Jungle as just over 6,000 watched Wigan win 26-20, although that crowd, which is below the club’s average, can somewhat be put down to the strange kick-off time of 8pm on a Saturday.
St Helens faced Salford for the second time in recent weeks on Sunday but a crowd of 10,192 still turned out to watch the final game of the round.
Those results mean Hull KR keep their four-point lead from Wigan Warriors, however, Leeds and Leigh have swapped places in the chasing pack. Warrington and Catalans have both closed the gap on the top six as well with Hull FC now looking vulnerable sitting in sixth, three points shy of fifth but just three points ahead of eighth-placed Warrington.
