Round 14 of Super League is in the books and the attendances are very impressive with league leaders Hull KR setting a record.
The Robins were backing up from their Challenge Cup win over Warrington Wolves and they showed no signs of a hangover as they tore apart a dismal Catalans Dragons side, eventually winning 68-6.
That was a record defeat for Les Dracs in Super League but Hull KR also set a record as they drew in the most home fans ever at Craven Park with almost all of the 11,350 who turned out being home fans.
Friday night’s game at Craven Park was one of three to draw in a crowd of 10,000 or more and whilst no official attendance has been confirmed for Sunday’s clash between Salford and St Helens, the total from the other five matches stands at an impressive 50,359.
After pulling in well over 60,000 at Wembley the week prior, the sport continues to perform well with attendances in Super League.
Super League Round Fourteen attendances
Friday night saw Craven Park packed out with 11,350 in attendance but across the city at the MKM Stadium, 13,376 turned out.
It’s rare that both Hull teams play at home on the same evening but the fact that almost 25,000 turned out across both games is testament to how well rugby league is thriving in Hull at the moment.
The Black and Whites couldn’t record their first home win of the season though as Castleford beat them 22-14, meaning John Cartwright’s side slip to sixth.
That’s after St Helens’ 46-4 win over Salford on Sunday where no official attendance has been confirmed. Sunday’s other game drew in 7,147 as Wakefield narrowly lost 24-20 against Leigh Leopards.
Saturday’s games took us to Headingley and Dewsbury, with Huddersfield playing at the Championship club’s ground on account of a Stereophonics gig at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Watching them perform makes it easy to understand why Ken Davy wants the club to move stadium as they almost beat the champions in front of 4,182 fans, losing to a last second Jack Farrimond try.
Later that evening, Leeds Rhinos beat a weary Warrington Wolves 36-12 in front of 14,306 as Brad Arthur’s side strengthened their grip on third place in Super League.
