The attendance figures are in for Round 19 of Super League, with one tie significantly standing out compared to the rest.
That tie took place at the Brick Community Stadium on Friday night, as a youthful Wigan Warriors side overcame Warrington Wolves in one of their most spirited and meaningful wins of the season.
There were 16,621 fans in attendance, as Matt Peet’s side climbed above Wire in the league table for the first time this season.
That game was by far the best supported of the week, and whilst they don’t publish their attendance figures, it’s safe to say that the game between Wakefield Trinity and Hull KR came next, as Craven Park was rocking. Unfortunately for the home fans, that atmosphere soon diminished as Wakefield won 20-6 to hand Rovers a first home defeat in almost a year.
The round’s action began on Thursday night, as York Knights claimed their third win in a row against struggling Hull FC. The Knights produced a great second-half effort to defeat the Black and Whites, and did so in front of 5,359 fans.
As well as Wigan v Warrington, a second game took place on Friday. Bradford Bulls claimed their first away win of the season, doing so against Huddersfield Giants. Giants boss Jim Lenihan accused the officials of “unconscious bias” against his side after a number of decisions went against his side. Nevertheless, it was the Bulls that take the points, doing so in front of 3,969 fans.
The aforementioned Hull KR v Wakefield game was sandwiched in between two other fixtures on Saturday. First, Leigh Leopards hosted Castleford Tigers in front of 8,567 supporters. Adrian’s Lam’s men claimed a nervy 24-18 victory on their return to the LSV.
In the evening, Leeds Rhinos travelled to Perpignan full of confidence after their strong Magic Weekend win. Brad Arthur’s side put in a professional performance to win 28-6 in front of 7,867 fans at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.
Lastly, St Helens welcomed Toulouse Olympique to the BrewDog Stadium. A strong number of home fans witnessed St Helens humiliated by the visitors, who won 46-0 in one of the upsets of the season, though no official attendance has been confirmed as yet.
