Round 23 of Super League is in the books and we’re no closer to finding out how to the final table will look.
League leaders Hull KR were stunned on Thursday night as Leeds Rhinos underlined their top two credentials in emphatic fashion. The Robins are still in a dominant position in the league table with four games to go and they’re still the favourites to go on and lift the League Leaders’ Shield.
But their lead has been pegged back to four points by Wigan Warriors who beat Wakefield Trinity with ease on Sunday afternoon. That was a win the Warriors needed too, having seen those below them in the league table move level on points with them momentarily.
Leeds were one of those teams, while St Helens, who edged a tight game against Hull FC on Friday night, were the other, actually jumping above Wigan on points difference.
Leeds and Saints are now two points back though and Leigh Leopards are another point behind them after seeing off Salford Red Devils.
Catalans Dragons saw off Castleford Tigers in the south of France, but Warrington Wolves were the big losers of the weekend, losing 23-10 at Huddersfield Giants in a result that all but spells the end of their play-off hopes.
Super League round 23 attendances
We’ll start on Thursday night when Leeds beat KR and that game attracted the biggest crowd of the round. A total of 16,260 crammed themselves into Headingley to watch the Rhinos’ rampant win over the Robins.
That was one of three games to record a five-figure crowd with Wigan Warriors seeing the second biggest attendance of round 23 as they welcomed 13,932 through their turnstiles to watch their win over Wakefield Trinity.
A big following from Hull FC helped boost St Helens’ crowd to 12,005 on Friday night. Leigh Leopards recorded a crowd of 7,826 for their clash against Salford, while Catalans attracted 7,269, which is their second smallest crowd of the season so far.
Huddersfield’s game with Warrington Wolves attracted the smallest crowd of the weekend with 3,941 attending that game.
