Super League attendance as St Helens and Leeds Rhinos tops 10,000

Round 15 of Super League concluded on Sunday afternoon and the attendance figures are in, with just one game topping 10,000.

That was Friday night’s clash between St Helens and Leeds Rhinos at the Totally Wicked Stadium where the home side landed an upset win, condemning Brad Arthur’s high-flying Rhinos to an 18-4 defeat.

That was one of three shock results this round, at least in terms of the bookmakers odds, with another of those upsets coming on Friday night when Wakefield Trinity beat Wigan Warriors 16-10.

Wigan had flirted with defeat the week prior against Huddersfield, only to score in the dying seconds but even Jai Field’s late try on Friday night was far too late for Matt Peet’s side to mount a comeback.

That’s seen the gap at the top widen as Hull KR relentlessly piled on the points once again when they hammered Castleford Tigers 48-0, with Danny McGuire’s side not even playing that badly at times.

There was also a change in third place as Leigh leapfrogged Leeds when they beat Catalans, whilst Hull FC returned to the top six with a convincing win over Salford Red Devils. The third and final upset came on Saturday when Huddersfield won just their second game all season to beat Warrington 24-16 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Super League Round Fifteen attendance

Almost 10,000 fans watched that upset win with a recorded attendance of 9,964, the second-highest this round in Super League.

The highest attendance in Super League went to St Helens and Leeds Rhinos as 11,179 watched that impressive win for Paul Wellens’ side. It’s a fixture that is sure to always draw a big crowd and understandably topped the round.

Over 9,000 watched Leigh beat Catalans with a strong percentage of those having travelled from Leigh, whilst the other recorded attendances sat just above 7,500.

They came in West Yorkshire, at the Jungle and Belle Vue as Cas and Wakey played on Thursday and Friday night respectively.

No attendance has been confirmed for Salford’s clash with Hull FC on Sunday as yet.
