Super League attendance as Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors top 15,000

The Super League attendances for Round 18 have been confirmed with three five-figure crowds, including two massive crowds.

Three of the six matches drew crowds of over 10,000 with two of those recording attendances of over 15,000 as a total of 60,000 fans watched Super League this past weekend.

Both of the games on Friday night recorded the largest attendances with the Super League play-offs shaken up when St Helens beat Leeds Rhinos 6-0 at Headingley.

That win saw Saints move ahead of Leeds due to their superior points difference, however, they’d both be leapfrogged by Leigh Leopards after their impressive 28-10 win over Hull KR which was watched by 9,682.

Hull KR are now just two points clear at the top after Wigan Warriors came from behind to win 30-10 on Friday night in a game that was a celebration of Sir Billy Boston.

It marked the first home game for Wigan since Boston’s knighthood and the fans turned out in force to record one of the largest attendances of the Super League season with 15,175 watching.

Thursday night had seen an impressive crowd of 10,401 watch Hull FC come from behind to beat Wakefield with the play-off battle very intriguing.

It was made more intriguing when Warrington beat Catalans 24-20 in Perpignan where storms and poor form contributed to a poor crowd of just 6,548.

The final game of Super League Round 18 came on Sunday and was between struggling Salford and coachless Castleford Tigers with the Red Devils securing just their second win of the season, winning 26-22 in a low quality affair. The crowd for that game was once again unconfirmed but Salford fans turned up in strong numbers once again whilst the travelling Castleford fans went back to Yorkshire disappointed.
