Catalans Dragons boss Steve McNamara could be feeling the pressure on his job after a loss to St Helens, with one pundit speaking on the English coach.
The French side fell to a third straight defeat in all competitions with St Helens playing them off the park from minute one in a 40-0 win.
It marked the first time that Catalans had conceded 40 or more points since the last round of 2022 which highlighted just how bad the defeat was.
Teenager George Whitby scored a hat-trick as St Helens ran in seven tries and whilst Saints were very good, talks quickly turned to just how bad Catalans Dragons were and what the result meant for Steve McNamara.
The Dragons boss had been under pressure after the 2024 season when the club missed the play-offs on points difference, but slipping to their sixth defeat of the Super League season could spell trouble for Steve McNamara.
Steve McNamara under pressure after Saints hammering
That’s according to pundit and former St Helens player Kyle Amor who was asked if McNamara could or even should be worrying about his job security.
Commentator Mark Wilson posited: “After missing the play-offs last year, if you were Steve McNamara then would you be getting worried about what the future may hold?”
“I think so,” responded Amor.
“You never really want to see anybody put into them hot waters but the amount of money that has been spent and how they limped out finishing seventh in 2024.
“He will have been expecting a much much better start than what has been served here in 2025.”
Amor had previously described the Dragons as looking “flat, defeated and lethargic”, all adjectives which were very hard to argue against with Catalans appearing tired throughout.
With a fixture run of Wigan Warriors, Hull FC, Hull KR and then Leigh Leopards, meaning they play four of the top five in their next four games, the job doesn’t look set to get any easier for Steve McNamara.
