Stand-out full-back and Warrington Wolves man among Super League players sweating disciplinary

Super League disciplinary

Despite just one sin bin in Super League round nine, there are still a handful of players who may be nervous about today’s disciplinary verdict.

Castleford Tigers‘ George Lawler was the only man to be sent to the sin bin in round nine and he couldn’t really complain with the forward making contact to the head of Ligi Sao, which ultimately saw the Hull FC man fail his HIA.

As such, any charge that Lawler lands will have an additional three penalty points added, meaning that should the Cas man be handed a charge of Grade B or higher, then he will be banned for the round ten away trip to his former club Hull KR.

Despite being the only man to be sin binned, he won’t be the only man fearing today’s Match Review Panel as a number of incidents went unpunished and possibly even more went unseen.

Which players could be sweating today’s Super League disciplinary?

Of those incidents that were seen but not punished, Toulouse’s Olly Ashall-Bott could find himself in hot water. The star full-back was perhaps saved by the fact he was lowering himself when he tackled York’s Cody Hunter and caught the half high.

Ashall-Bott was the second man in the tackle with teammate Thomas Lacans contributing to Hunter’s dropping height and that could well save the full-back, however, it was an ugly contact that will certainly be assessed.

Another incident that was looked at but not acted on at the time was Caius Faatili’s tackle on St Helens’ Matt Whitley with the incident placed on report, meaning it is certain to be looked at.

Daryl Powell has already confirmed that Trin lost forward Seth Nikotemo to a HIA so they can ill afford to lose Faatili to a ban ahead of Friday night’s big West Yorkshire derby against Leeds Rhinos.

A final matter that may be looked at, and could well be thrown out as a case of ‘handbags’, was when Wire back Josh Thewlis and Wigan half Jack Farrimond went at it late in their game on Friday night.

The pair both came head to head but what seemed to instigate the matter was Thewlis making contact with the head of Farrimond in an apparent push or shove, something that has been charged at times but on rare occasions.  Wire will hope that nothing comes of it given Thewlis could be roped in to play full-back this week after Cai Taylor-Wray picked up a knock.
