St Helens tie down standout signing to long-term contract extension

St Helens have tied down another of their off-contract stars with one of the club’s off-season recruits signing a new deal.

After last week’s contract extensions for off-contract pair Alex Walmsley and Jake Davies, the club have now signed loose forward Joe Shorrocks to a three-year extension.

Shorrocks signed for St Helens in the off-season after leaving Salford Red Devils with the forward reuniting with head coach Paul Rowley.

He was tasked with filling the huge boots of Morgan Knowles and whilst he is not a like-for-like replacement, Shorrocks has been very impressive in his performances so far.

As such, St Helens have wasted no time in securing him for the future with the club now confirming that Shorrocks has agreed to an extended three-year deal.

A club statement confirmed: “St.Helens R.F.C. is thrilled to confirm that versatile forward Joe Shorrocks has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Club!”

St Helens re-sign Joe Shorrocks

Still only 26, Shorrocks has plenty to offer for years to come so it’s no surprise to see St Helens re-sign the ex-Wigan man to an extended deal.

Capable of playing all across the pack whilst also having played in the halves, including famously against St Helens in the Good Friday derby, Shorrocks’ versatility is a hugely desired trait.

On the new deal, Paul Rowley said: “I never made a secret of the fact that I knew what qualities Joe would bring to our team. He is a bit of a hybrid, with a strong work ethic and a good rugby brain as well.

“Joe has done exactly what I expected him to do, and this is a reward for him backing himself and proving to be a valuable member of our team.

“He’s a huge character, fun, but let that never be mistaken. What people don’t see is that Joe is the consummate professional when it comes to doing his own work and understanding his role in our team.”

Shorrocks said: “I’m buzzing! Ever since the deal was put to me, I’ve been really keen to get it over the line. Thankfully, I’ve done that now, so I’m really happy.”
