St Helens have confirmed a new deal for one of their overseas players, and he will be staying put for another 12 months.
Agnatius Paasi remained as St Helens’ only player to not have a confirmed club in 2026, but that has now been sorted, after penning a new deal with the Red Vee to continue until the end of 2026.
The 33-year-old Tongan joined Saints at the start of the 2021 season, and has made 108 appearances for the club.
He has featured in two Grand Final wins, coming off the bench in his first season before finding himself in a starting role in 2022. He was also part of the 2021 Challenge Cup winning squad and the World Club Challenge winning squad in 2023, as the Saints defeated Penrith Panthers in Australia.
Whilst his impact hasn’t been the same this season as it was in his first few years at the club, Paasi will now enter his sixth season, and will form part of a new-look forward pack under Paul Rowley that includes NRL signings David Klemmer and Jacob Host.
St Helens prop “grateful” for new contract as he enters sixth season at club
Commenting on his new deal, Paasi couldn’t be more grateful to the Saints, and hopes that 2026 will be a return to the success he enjoyed in his opening two seasons.
Speaking to the club website, he said: “I’m excited for another year with Saints. This club has given me a lot, and I really appreciate it. I’m buzzing and I’m going to give everything I’ve got to try to win more silverware – we always want more here, so hopefully this next year is a big one.”
Paasi suffered a long-term injury in 2023, with his campaign coming to an end in July of that year. He suffered an ACL, MCL and ligament injuries in defeat to Leigh Leopards in the Challenge Cup semi-final.
Thanking the club for their assistance through that injury and his return to play, he said: “I can’t fault the club at all.
“The physios, trainers, and all the staff really helped me get back on the field and held me accountable. I’m grateful for that.
“I’m challenging myself to get back to the level I was at in my first two years here, and help the team out as best I can.”
