St Helens star Tristan Sailor talks Saints current form, adapting to life in the UK, and playing alongside NRL veteran

St Helens fullback Tristan Sailor in action

St Helens star Tristan Sailor put in another player of the match performance as his side ran in eleven tries to beat Salford Red Devils 58-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Sailor scored two of them himself, as well as getting four try assists, in a clinical performance from the Saints over a struggling Salford side.

Whilst he has come under some criticism this season, he’s finding his feet in his preferred fullback role in Jack Welsby’s absence.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, he said on the side’s performance: “It was very good. We played Salford two weeks ago, and the most important thing for us was to work on our defence and not let them get a try at the end of the game like last time.

“We really prided ourselves on that zero. That translated to our attack, and we scored some tries.

“I think we were probably a bit loose, myself included. We just got into some safe footy at the end and played direct.

“Salford had quite a good team today with some good inclusions, so we’re happy with that.”

St Helens fullback on adjusting to Super League and his partnership with Kyle Feldt

The fullback admitted that it’s taken him some time to adjust to not only a new league and country, but also a new team, sharing that he thinks he’s finally starting to feel more at home in this St Helens side.

He added: “I think I’m really starting to find my place, and I’m really enjoying it. It’s taken a while to get used to the new style of rugby league and a new team.

“I think at the moment, we’re going well, three wins on the trot, and I’m looking forward to Hull FC next week.”

He’s also providing assists to former North Queensland Cowboys player Kyle Feldt, who’s only just returned from hand surgery, but looked strong on the wing today, scoring a hat-trick.

Sailor finished: “When I saw he was coming over, I was super excited, he’s such a good finisher.

“To see what he did at the Cowboys for over a decade, not only his try-scoring ability, but also his leadership he brings to the team.”
