St Helens have released a very strong statement that confirms the club have reported Wakefield Trinity to the RFL following their approach for contracted centre Harry Robertson.
Reports emerged earlier in the week that Wakefield had made a six-figure play for Robertson and when asked about that on Thursday, Trinity head coach Daryl Powell confirmed the club’s interest in the young centre.
St Helens have now responded in an official club statement that claims they have recieved no communication from Wakefield, adding that they would not entertain an offer either.
The club has also confirmed that they have reported the matter to the RFL’s Compliance Department, who will rule on whether Wakefield have committed any wrongdoing.
Shared on social media, the full statement reads: “Contrary to public statements made by Wakefield Trinity in relation to Harry Robertson, a player contracted long-term to St.Helens, the Club has received no contact or communication whatsoever from Wakefield Trinity.
“Nor would we entertain any.
“We have reported this matter to The RFL’s Compliance Department for their review and, if merited, appropriate action should be taken.
“St.Helens R.F.C. will make no further comment while this matter is under review.”

What did Wakefield say about St Helens’ centre?
Robertson, who is contracted at St Helens until the end of the 2028 season, is one of the sport’s hottest prospects with his versatility a major asset and something that Paul Rowley spoke about recently.
Following the reports earlier in the week that Trinity had shown interest, Powell was asked if he could clear the matter up, responding: “There’s nothing to clear up, that’s true that.
“He was a player that we were interested in – who wouldn’t be? We made an offer, and Saints declined it. That’s up to them, isn’t it?
“We really like him, we think he’s a high-quality player… We’re keen on Harry, but we’ll see what happens.”
Powell’s claim that an official offer was made and declined by St Helens contradicts Saints’ statement, in which they claim they have had no communication with the West Yorkshire club, hence the involvement of the RFL’s Compliance Department.
It’s unclear what sort of sanctions could be handed down if Wakefield are found to have made an unofficial approach to Robertson, something that has not been suggested yet.
