St Helens lose star man for two months as injury update shared after bruising derby

St Helens can expect to be without Daryl Clark for around eight weeks after the England hooker sustained an ankle injury in the Magic Weekend loss to Wigan Warriors.

Clark was one of several players that Saints lost to injury and whilst three others will be forced to sit out at least one game, the hooker is by far the biggest and lengthiest injury blow.

A club statement has confirmed that Clark has suffered an ankle ligament injury, something that St Helens expect will rule him out for ‘around eight weeks’.

With just ten games of the regular season remaining, it’s a major blow and one that may force Saints back into the loan market, something Paul Rowley admitted was a possibility when speaking immediatey after the loss to Wigan.

Bill Leyland has been loaned in by Saints on two occasions this year but Hull KR head coahc Willie Peters confirmed that no contact had been made by Saints, at the time he spoke at his press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

St Helens injury list grows longer

The injury update from St Helens also confirmed that David Klemmer suffered three broken ribs early in the match. The Australian carried on but it’s now expected that he will be sidelined for ‘several weeks’ as a result of those injuries.

That’s another blow to an already light forward pack that has lost both Alex Walmlsey and George Delaney to failed head injury assessments.

It means St Helens are seriously low on senior forwards with their list of available players in the pack now limited and just Jake Burns and Tom Humphreys at hooker in place of Daryl Clark.

Klemmer, Walmsley and Delaney join fellow forwards Matty Lees, Matt Whitley, Jake Wingfield and Noah Stephens on the injury list, with the latter four all out for the season.

Following a bruising match at Magic Weekend, the Saints have picked up four further injuries.
