St Helens have issued an update on playmaker Jonny Lomax after the veteran was forced from the field last night in the loss to Warrington Wolves.
As Lomax broke through and made the dive to the line to try and score, it quickly became apparent that something was wrong as he flagged to the sideline and then received treatment with oxygen being provided a the Brewdog Stadium.
Lomax then left to visit hospital with St Helens head coach Paul Rowley suggesting that it was a suspected broken jaw that the veteran had suffered.
The club have now provided an update via social media, confirming that Lomax has indeed broken his jaw.
A post on X read: “Jonny Lomax sadly suffered a fractured jaw in the Saints’ match against Warrington last night, which will require surgery.
“We are hoping that will happen as soon as possible, and his recovery can begin as well.
“Thank you to all the fans who have messaged the Club asking for an update.
“We have let Jonny know about all your support, and it is truly appreciated at this time.
“Get well soon, Jonny.”
What next for St Helens veteran Jonny Lomax amid broken jaw
The timeline to recover from a broken jaw is a lengthy one and with Lomax off-contract at the end of the season and also set to turn 36 in September, there will be understandable fears that the former club captain has played his last game for St Helens.
When asked about that in the immediate aftermath of the game, Saints coach Paul Rowley responded: “I’ve not even thought about that.
“There’s so many things that Jonny can do, whether it be playing or carrying on. I don’t know.
“Me and Jonny have got a great relationship. I’ve really enjoyed working with Jonny since I’ve been here and it’s an honest one, so we’ll just continue to chat.
“I’d always like Jonny around in whatever capacity because he’s a champion player, champion bloke.
“His battle at the minute is just to get back from this injury. There’ll be games to play, I’m sure.”
