A number of Super League clubs could be set to sweat today’s disciplinary verdict after the six matches from Round Twelve.
Just three men were sent to the sin bin across the six matches but the Match Review Panel will look at all the incidents, including those that went unpunished.
The gaps in Super League became even clearer as the top two won once again, extending their lead from third-place and there is now a different team in third with Leeds Rhinos leapfrogging Leigh Leopards.
Leigh lost 26-12 to Hull FC whilst Leeds defeated Castleford 29-6 at the Jungle. Victory for Hull FC wasn’t enough to launch them back into the top six as large wins for St Helens and Wakefield Trinity saw them remain ahead.
Both Catalans Dragons and Warrington Wolves find themselves four points adrift from the top six now whilst strugglers Huddersfield, Castleford and Salford remain a long way back.
We’ve assessed some of the incidents that the Match Review Panel could look at ahead of them handing down today’s Super League disciplinary verdict.
Who will be sweating the Super League disciplinary verdict?
The three yellow cards shown this weekend were all for four play meaning that any punishment handed out likely won’t be severe.
Taane Milne and Alex Walmsley traded sin bins in Friday night’s easy win for St Helens with Milne pulling back a player without the ball, whilst Walmsley stayed in a tackle too long.
The third sin bin was for a similar offence as Liam Horne made sure he got himself in the way when Leeds Rhinos attempted to rush it back to the 20 metres line for a quick restart, with Liam Rush given no choice but to flash a yellow card.
Another incident in that game that went unpunished was Sam Lisone leading with the elbow in the carry, a carry that saw Muizz Mustapha left in a lot of trouble. The incident was briefly looked at but video referee connections weren’t 100% working at Wheldon Road so perhaps a longer inspection by the disciplinary panel could warrant action.
The final incident affects Super League leaders Hull KR with Mikey Lewis throwing out a lazy arm around Stefan Ratchford’s neck when the Wire man kicked the ball, and that could be reviewed by the disciplinary panel.
There was no malice or real intent in Lewis’ actions but the unnecessary nature of taking Ratchford high could be looked at.
