St Helens, Hull FC and Castleford Tigers men among players sweating Super League disciplinary

Round 21 of Super League is in the books and with just six games to go we’re approaching an exciting finale.

Hull KR remain four points clear at the top of the league after their win over Castleford Tigers on Saturday afternoon and they’ll fancy their chances of getting the League Leaders’ Shield all but wrapped up on Friday night at Wigan Warriors.

Matt Peet’s side edged out Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and they now sit three points ahead of Leigh Leopards, who slipped up at home to play-off rivals Leeds Rhinos.

The Rhinos remain fifth, though, with St Helens’ win over Wakefield Trinity ensuring they sit ahead of the West Yorkshire club on points difference.

Hull FC put troubled Salford Red Devils to the sword on Sunday, winning 80-6 to climb back into the top six above Wakefield and Huddersfield Giants picked up back to back wins for the first time this season, beating Catalans Dragons on home soil.

However, a number of clubs will be patiently waiting for the disciplinary verdict to filter through today as they wait to find out whether any of their players have been banned.

Super League players sweating disciplinary verdict

Four yellow cards were handed out over the course of the weekend and most of those players will be fearing further punishment from the Match Review Panel. Wakefield’s Oliver Pratt probably won’t be sanctioned given his sin bin was for a professional foul.

However, George Delaney was fortunate to see a yellow for his high tackle on Lachlan Walmsley. The prop clearly made shoulder to head contact but the officials on the night opted not to send him off with a yellow deemed to be sufficient at the time.

Bayley Sironen was also shown a yellow card over the weekend, with his shot on Matty English being high. The Catalans Dragons man will be fearing the worst today, as will Jeremiah Simbiken, who already has a lengthy disciplinary record, following his late hit on Mikey Lewis in the clash between Castleford and Hull KR.

Lachlan Lam might just get away with his high tackle on Brodie Croft after catching the Leeds Rhinos man with a swinging arm, but Salford’s Loghan Lewis could be in trouble for his high shot on Hull FC man Liam Watts on Sunday.

Jed Cartwright is another will be keeping an eye out for Super League disciplinary today, with the Hull back-rower delivering a very late hit on Salford man Nathan Connell.
