St Helens confirm immediate exit of overseas forward as fans offered farewell opportunity

St Helens have confirmed the immediate exit of overseas forward Agnatius Paasi, bringing an end to his five and a half year stay at the club.

Paasi joined St Helens ahead of the 2021 season, arriving from NRL club New Zealand Warriors. He’d go on to make 112 appearances wearing the Red Vee, scoring ten tries, and crucially playing his part in two Super League titles, a Challenge Cup win and the famous World Club Challenge victory over Penrith Panthers in 2023.

The 34-year-old made just four appearances for Saints in 2026 with the last of those coming in the Good Friday derby, in which he suffered a hamstring injury inside the first five minutes.

News of Paasi’s exit was confirmed by the club with a statement reading: “St Helens R.F.C. confirms that prop forward Agnatius Paasi has left the Club. The Saints would like to extend our best wishes to ‘Iggy’ and his family in their next chapter and thank him for his service.”

St Helens announce Iggy Paasi exit

Despite an injury-impacted 2026 season, Paasi played 27 times last year with the forward rewarded with a one-year contract extension for this current season.

It’s also been confirmed by St Helens that fans can farewell the forward in their home fixture against Warrington Wolves on Thursday, 11th June, as he will be invited onto the pitch to receive his official heritage number certificate.

Speaking on his time at the club, Paasi said: “I’d just like to thank the Club, all the players and coaching staff for taking me on. I couldn’t be happier after coming over at the right time and helping the Club achieve what we did. The memories we made, I’ll never forget. Hopefully, in ten or twenty years time, we can come together and reminisce about those days.

“To the fans, it’s truly been a blessing to witness the love that me and my family have received over the six seasons I have spent here. Some ups and downs, but I know the fans always show up through thick and thin, and I can honestly say that St Helens will always be my home away from home.”

St Helens  Chairman Eamonn McManus added: “Iggy played a prominent role in Grand Final and World Club Challenge victories and in our success generally in those years, and we will always remember and thank him for that.

“His career at the Club was blighted by the horrific injury he suffered in 2023 in the Challenge Cup semi-final, but he never ceased to give his best after he returned from a long absence.

“He has and his family have settled firmly into the St Helens community, and we wish them every happiness and success in the future.”
