The 16 St Helens players set to leave at the end of the year

St Helens

St Helens are one of the Super League sides who have a lot of current players without deals for 2026 and we’ve looked at who could leave.

Saints have plenty of negotiations and contract talks to get done, with a whopping fifteen players potentially leaving the club at the end of the year.

Five of those players are overseas, or quota, players, so there are some big decisions for Mike Rush and Paul Wellens to make.

Here is the full list of players at the Totally Wicked Stadium who are confirmed to be leaving St Helens or are still in negotiations. Some of these may have options with the club, either in favour of the club or player, but for now these are the 16 set to leave.

Every player set to leave St Helens at the end of the 2025 season

James Bell and Joe Batchelor:

Though not confirmed, it is widely reported that the back row pair of Bell and Batchelor will be making the move to Hull FC, linking up with John Cartwright’s Black and Whites.

Jon Bennison:

He signed a one-year contract at the end of last season and seems to be behind Kyle Feldt and Lewis Murphy ahead of him. The 22-year-old can also play fullback, and with Jack Welsby set for months on the sidelines, this could be his chance to earn himself a new deal.

Jake Burns:

After nine appearances in 2024, including a playoff game against Warrington, the hooker has played just once this year. Moses Mbye seems to be the backup to Daryl Clark this season, but with both off contract Burns will need to take any opportunity to prove himself worthy.

Leon Cowen and Will Roberts:

The young Saints duo both signed professional contracts in 2023, and have been in and around the fringes of the first team squad since. Neither have made a first team appearance, but spent time on loan in the Championship in 2024.

Konrad Hurrell:

After an injury-hit 2025, the Tongan international has spent time in the Championship with spells at Swinton Lions and Bradford Bulls. With the emergence of Harry Robertson, it is hard to believe that the ‘Hurrellcane’ will remain a Saint in 2026.

Morgan Knowles:

The England international will head down under to link up with former coach, Kristian Woolf, as he heads to NRL side, the Dolphins. The pair won three Grand Finals together between 2020 and 2022.

Moses Mbye:

The hooker can play in a range of positions and is a versatile option for Paul Wellens to have. The 31-year-old has had a mediocre season and is up against young Jake Burns for the backup hooker role. Surely youth beats experience in this scenario, especially considering Mbye is taking up a quota role?

Agnatius Paasi:

Paasi signed ahead of the 2021 season and has been mainly used as an impact sub during his time in the Red Vee. However, after nine appearances this year the Tongan has made just 64 metres. That stat is nowhere near good enough for any Super League player, let alone a man of his experience and quality.

Dayon Sambou and Jonny Vaughan:

Again, we are waiting for the deals to be confirmed, however the Saints pair are seemingly heading over to the Brick Community Stadium after both have reportedly signed for Wigan Warriors next year.

Curtis Sironen:

The 31-year-old joined the club in 2022 and played in both the Grand Final win of that year and the World Club Challenge in Penrith. We expect the Aussie to get a new short-term deal, with his experience and quality enough to earn him another year or two.

Jake Wingfield:

The loose-forward has an automatic extension clause, meaning if he makes a certain number of appearances he will gain an extra year on his contract. However, after an injury-hampered season, Paul Wellens has stated previously he is unlikely to reach that mark. He also mentioned ahead of Magic Weekend that he would like to keep the 23-year-old at the club.

Matt Whitley:

The back rower joined the club on a two-year deal ahead of 2024, and has made 37 appearances. With the likes of Batchelor, Bell and Knowles all departing, the Saints are going to need experience in the pack, and Whitley has not done anything wrong to warrant him leaving the club.

Tee Ritson

The speedy winger has been on loan in the Championship throughout 2025 despite injuries at Saints so it’s possibly unlikely he lands a new deal at the end of the year.

would let the lot go at this time, on watching the games they have played are no were near a threat to any team at the moment. need also to think about a new team coach who can motivate his players . seems time to re- develope st helens rugby for next season.
