Sam Burgess explains what Warrington Wolves must do to beat Hull KR

Warrington Wolves boss Sam Burgess knows his side cannot afford to be anything other than flawless if they are to beat Hull KR on Saturday.

The Wolves have been boosted by the fitness of George Williams and Toby King this week but they are still considered huge underdogs to get their hands on the Challenge Cup trophy.

That’s because KR currently sit on top of the Super League table, having blown away most of the opponents they have faced this season and that includes Warrington, having recorded a 31-12 win at Halliwell Jones Stadium just two weeks away. In fact, Wigan Warriors are the only side to have beaten the Robins this year, with that result coming two months ago.

Warrington’s form, on the other hand, has been shaky at best, with the Wolves in eighth and they come into Saturday’s final on the back of two defeats in their last three games.

So, how do Warrington plan to beat Hull KR on Saturday?

“That’s a good question,” Burgess said. “You have to be good.

“They really don’t beat themselves, they’re very consistent and you have to be good and be on your game. The players have to be eight or nines out of 10 across the board and you have to take some chances.

“When your moments come and your opportunities, you have to be ready to take them. That’s what I think the game will come down to on Saturday, who grabs their moments better and takes their opportunities. It’ll be two good sides going at it.”

Asked about whether Warrington Wolves could take any confidence from the last meeting, Burgess added: “I think the first half was OK for us last time we played them. Traditionally they start hot and I don’t know what he score was but I think it was 10-6 for a long time and they got a late try.

“We got a bit of confidence out of that and we’ll have to manage them early again, no doubt about that.”
