Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess has had his say after his side’s comeback 30-22 win over Catalans Dragons.
Trailing 22-6 after half an hour, Warrington looked destined to slip to a fourth consecutive defeat and against a side who had only won one in twelve.
However, Jake Thewlis’ try late in the first half gave them hope and they’d build on that in the second, putting Catalans under the pump and building off Marc Sneyd and Danny Walker’s dominant kicking game.
It wasn’t until Thewlis’ second try in the 70th minute that Warrington finally took the lead but from there, they didn’t look like forfeiting that lead as they added another to round off the win in what was a textbook game of two halves.
Warrington kept their slim play-off hopes alive with that win but the Wolves’ head coach Sam Burgess wouldn’t be drawn on their top six hopes.
“Nope, don’t start. It’s a week at a time,” Burgess interrupted when asked on Sky Sports about those top six hopes, adding: “I’m not really interested about everything external, I’m interested about our performance.
“First half, not good enough. Second half, much better. We’ll look to improve on that.”

Put to Burgess that it was a ‘game of two halves’, the Warrington Wolves boss agreed as he explained what went wrong in the first 40 minutes.
“We showed a bit of character in the second half, but the first half, we looked a bit gun-shy,” he said.
Given the performance of the first 40 minutes, it would be understandable if Burgess tore into his side at half time, however, he shed some light on his team talk.
“I was pretty calm in there, really, because I could see we were just losing a few moments, and quite important, a lot of missed tackles,” he explained.
“They were playing some good rugby but again just concentration was poor so I knew if we could tidy that up, we could swing momentum around. Overall, I’m happy with the result, but there’s still plenty for us to work on.”
Burgess was also asked about Matt Dufty’s omission, something he was coy on, stating: “He’s just not playing tonight.
“He just wasn’t selected. I thought the guys were good enough last week and he’s got a good bit of work to get himself back in the side.”
Dufty is expected to play for the reserves this weekend as he works his way back into the first team.
