Salford RLFC have released a statement calling for information to identify fans who were involved in the unsavoury scenes at the end of the club’s narrow loss to Barrow Raiders last weekend.
The Championship club lost out in a hard-fought game with their Cumbrian visitors winning 22-20 thanks to a second-half comeback, denying Salford the chance of a huge upset win.
It likely would have been the best result since the club had reformed under the moniker Salford RLFC and for some home fans in attendance, the narrow heartache saw them act in a manner that the club have labelled as ‘completely unacceptable’ as fans engaged with Barrow players.
A strongly worded statement has since been released, both condemning the actions and seeking information of those involved so that banning orders can be enacted.
“There is no place at our club for anti-social behaviour,” the statement announces, thanking the fans who have turned up in numbers before noting that Sunday’s actions were out of order and that an investigation will be launched.
“The club is reviewing all available footage and will work closely with stadium management and the RFL to identify those involved.
“Anyone identified will face appropriate action, which may include banning orders.”
The club also reminded their fans of their involvement in the RFL’s Respect campaign, through which they are committed to making the sport a safe and welcoming environment for all involved.
It’s still to be determined if the RFL will take action against Salford, as has sometimes been the case in instances of anti-social behaviour from fans.
Salford are at home again this coming weekend when they will play North Wales Crusaders, a side who have lost every game since being saved by a margin of 68 points or more, with Salford having scored 86 points against them on the road in late May.
