Salford RLFC confirm shock head coach exit with reasons outlined

Salford

Mike Grady has departed Salford RLFC, with the club stating the move is due to “changes in his personal circumstances.”

Grady became the first head coach of the Salford phoenix club, which came about after the Red Devils were sent into liquidation at the end of 2025.

The former Red Devils Women’s coach was in charge of the club for eight matches, and managed to secure two wins in that time.

A Challenge Cup win came in just his second game at the helm, with Salford beating Hammersmith Hills Hoists to book a tie with Hull FC.

Grady earned his first Championship win with a stunning 29-18 victory over Hunslet, in what was a special day for the club in it’s new identity.

However, he now leaves Salford by mutual agreement, and the club have nothing but praise to say about their former boss.

In the interim, Dave Hewitt, who was Grady’s assistant, will take charge of the first team.

Current CEO and former player Ryan Brierley said: “Mike came in as coach at a time when the club had just come through one of its toughest times with the double impact of relegation and liquidation.

“He was willing to roll up his sleeves and bring stability on the pitch. The face we were able to field a team against Oldham in January, after only three weeks, speaks volumes about his determination and commitment.”

Grady himself added: “I want to thank Ryan for the opportunity to represent this great club and fan base. What we created at the start of the year was pretty special and I’m proud to have built that.

“I’m happy to leave the club in a better place than I found it and wish the club all the best for the future.”
