Salford Red Devils players once again will have a delayed payday, as expected payments today have not been received.
It’s been tradition for a few years now that Salford’s payday is the final Thursday of every month, but not for the first time this season, there’s a delay.
This time, it was communicated in advance, as according to All Out Rugby League, players were told on Wednesday that May’s pay packet might not arrive until Friday morning.
However, this delay in payment does put their Super League game on Friday against Wigan Warriors in doubt, should there be another delay.
It is rumoured that should their salaries not be paid, the playing group would not fulfil that fixture, meaning severe consequences for the club from the RFL.
This news comes as Salford have to attend a HMRC hearing next month, with regards to a £600,000 unpaid tax bill, with this figure rising.
That meeting is due to be held on 26th June, and coincidentally, the next payday for the Salford club.
Salford Red Devils turmoil continues ahead of Wigan Warriors clash
Salford head coach Paul Rowley has admitted that focus is an issue for his playing group right now, stating that the off-the-field situation is obviously a contributing factor.
Whilst they have lost multiple members of their squad, Rowley shared that it’s hard to be too critical of those who have stayed.
Speaking during his press conference on Wednesday, he said: “I actually just think credit to our players for the loyalty and commitment that they’ve shown up to this point.
“Credit to the players that actually left for staying and fighting and hoping that we got started for so long as well.”
Salford Red Devils have only been able to name a squad of eighteen again due to injuries and loanee recalls from their parent clubs.
However, Rowley remains optimistic that new investment will come soon and the return of CEO Paul King to the club will hopefully turn around the club’s fortunes.

Shut down this circus, they are making fools out of their supporters and all of the RL family.
This fracas shows how weak and inept the RL authority are. Paul Rowley is one of the most innovative coaches in the game; unfortunately his naivety knows no bounds and he appears to believe the lies that these shyster new owners are peddling to the fans and everyone else.
