Salford Red Devils sign Hull KR man on short-term loan deal

- 17/06/2023 - Rugby League - Betfred Challenge Cup Quarter Final - Hull KR v Salford Red Devils - Sewell Group Craven Park, Hull, England - Huyll KR & Salford head coaches Willie Peters and Paul Rowley talk priot to kick off.

Salford Red Devils have added yet another loan player with a Hull KR man making the switch to Paul Rowley’s side.

After signing four players on loan last week, Salford have dipped into the market once again with the Red Devils set to be bolstered by the addition of Danny Richardson.

Richardson is set to face his former club St Helens when the sides meet at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Sunday with the expectations being that the 28-year-old will be thrust straight into the action.

He has played a handful of times for Hull KR this season, including against Salford Red Devils in Round Three when the Robins won 42-0 against a Salford side that was packed full of stars, many of whom have since left.

Both Hull KR and Salford have confirmed the deal, which will be for two weeks, with Richardson having already met his new teammates on Monday.

Richardson is in line to become the 54th player to represent Salford in 2025.

Danny Richardson joins Salford Red Devils on short-term deal

Richardson has played three times in Super League this season with his most recent appearances coming against Warrington Wolves in Round 12, but he will bring plenty to Salford and allow for some key positional changes.

Paul Rowley has been playing full-back Ryan Brierley and centre Esan Marsters in the halves lately but Richardson is specialised in the position and will allow for one of those men to return to their natural position.

He also offers a goal-kicking option, should Salford manage to score which is something they have struggled with understandably in 2025.

Announcing Richardson’ loan move, Salford said: “We are delighted to confirm the two-week loan signing of experienced halfback, Danny Richardson, from Hull KR.

“The 28-year-old was welcomed by his new teammates on Monday morning and goes straight into contention for this weekend’s game versus his former side, St Helens.”

Speaking on the deal, Richardson said: “I’ve missed that game day feeling and the buzz of competing. Salford are in a battle right now, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get involved.

“I’ll give everything I’ve got to help the group.”

I initially thought that Switzerland was coming to Greater Manchester back in February. But it seems more likely that a part of Greater Manchester is being slowly taken to Switzerland for it’s inevitable EUTHANASIA!!!
