Salford Red Devils have provided a medical update on Emmanuel Waine after the forward was hospitalised in Thursday’s loss to Catalans Dragons.
The Red Devils lost 17-16 having led at half-time but the biggest talking point was regarding loanee Waine as the forward went down after a sickening collision with Catalans forward Franck Maria.
After ten minutes of medical attention for Waine, who appeared to be immediately knocked unconscious at the point of contact, the prop was stretchered off the field before Maria was shown red by Super League’s newest referee Matty Lynn.
Paul Rowley provided an update post-match, confirming that Waine was “well asleep and well away” after the tackle but a further update has now come from the Red Devils and thankfully, it’s a lot more positive.

Taking to social media, Salford Red Devils provided an update, posting: “We are pleased to report Emmanuel Waine is back home from hospital and recovering from a collision which forced him from the field in last Thursday’s game.
“A big thank you to all medical personnel who acted so quickly to provide care on the field.
“We’re all behind you in your recovery, Manu!”
He will obviously have also failed his head injury assessment meaning he would have been ruled out for the Round 26 fixture against Huddersfield Giants anyway, however, he may well be ruled out for further given the severity of the incident.
That could mean he has played his last game as a Salford Red Devils loanee with the Papua New Guinean international potentially set to rejoin his parent club Bradford Bulls, who will be hoping to make the Championship Grand Final.
Following Bradford’s win over London on Saturday, head coach Brian Noble said: “He’s alright, he’s home and has clearly had to go through a lot of scans and head knock protocols.
“I think he’s got a small fracture in his jaw as well but if you watch the footage, wow. I’m happy to say he’s alright.”
