Salford Red Devils ownership release statement to fans after council’s stadium decision

Salford Red Devils

Salford Red Devils have released a statement following today’s news that Salford Council have ended stadium purchase negotiations.

The statement from the council outlined how it had not been possible for the council to progress negotiations with Sire Kailahi, Curtiz Brown and Jacobsen Management and have therefore decided to pull the plug on any potential sale.

It comes as a huge blow for the club, with many hoping that a deal to purchase the stadium could bring an end to the financial uncertainty the organisation has experienced under the new ownership, who took the Salford reins in February after seeing their takeover ratified by the RFL.

The council’s decision comes following reports that Salford had been hit with a winding-up order by HMRC. That story broke on Wednesday with City AM reporting debts and unpaid bills had resulted in tax authorities filing a winding-up order against Salford City Reds (2013) Limited.

The Sun have previously reported that the club owe £500,000 to the tax man, and that could ultimately see them enter administration if debts cannot be paid.

Following the decision from the council, the club’s ownership have released a statement in which they insist they will be reviewing all available options to them. They have also reiterated claims of their intentions to stabilise the club with the community in mind.

The statement read: “To the Salford Red Devils family.

“We are deeply disappointed by Salford City Council’s decision to end negotiations regarding our purchase of the Salford Community Stadium. This unilateral decision will only impact negatively on the team, the stadium, the local community, and our fans, who are the lifeblood of this great club.

“In light of today’s decision, we will be reviewing all available options and sharing more information in due course.

“We want to reassure you all, after discussions with the RFL and leading members of the Super League who have given sound advice, our goal is and always will be, to stabilise the club for the Salford Community.”

It’s no surprise really, with council which contains so much negativity from a conservative’s input which has been obvious even before the stadium was built.

These so called “New owners” of Salford RL day by day are becoming more and more conspicuous by there increasing lack of commitment and engagement with other club officials, players, team coaching staff and management and most importantly the lack of care and ability to inform everybody, public and fans about what they are doing to stabilise the club.
It’s almost as if their purpose is to drive this club into the ground.
