Salford Red Devils ownership react to club’s relegation in bizarre statement

Salford Red Devils

Salford Red Devils’ ownership group have released a bizarre statement in the aftermath of the club’s confirmed relegation from Super League.

Within that statement, which is attributed to the club’s ownership group, they claim that they have “exerted every possible effort to uphold the spirit and strength of the Salford Red Devils team,” which seems an extraordinary claim given what we know to have happened at the club this year.

The attempted land grab is what attracted the current ownership group and the funds promised to clear debts have never arrived. To the contrary, the funds to pay players and staff have often been late and occasionally funded by loan companies or advanced central funding by the RFL.

Their latest statement has expressed “great regret and profound disappointment” at the club’s relegation from Super League, something that was officially confirmed by Thursday’s IMG grades.

Salford face a HMRC winding up petition later this month where their future will likely be determined but the club statement expresses the ‘sincere hope’ that “forthcoming communication will unify all supporters and stakeholders”.

Salford Red Devils ownership releases statement after Super League exit

The statement began by addressing the club’s relegation from Super League with Salford losing considerable IMG points to slip from 12th to 15th on the gradings.

The statement read: “It is with great regret and profound disappointment that we address you today following the club’s unfortunate removal from Super League. This outcome is especially painful considering the tumultuous year we have experienced, marked by significant financial and team challenges.

“Throughout these trials, our utmost priority has been to ensure that the Salford Red Devils fulfil all their fixtures, thereby maintaining the integrity of the broadcast deal and ensuring the continuation of this season’s competition.”

They continued: “We are fully aware of the disappointment expressed by our dedicated fans. Please be assured that we have exerted every possible effort to uphold the spirit and strength of the Salford Red Devils team. Our commitment to the club remains unwavering, and we are steadfast in our efforts to secure a future that honours the proud traditions of the Red Devils.”

The club’s future was also addressed before a claim that the ownership group had aimed to conduct themselves with ‘dignity and resolve’.

They explained: “An important announcement regarding the future direction of the club will be made next week. It is our sincere hope that this forthcoming communication will unify all supporters and stakeholders.

“Throughout this challenging period, our solemn pledge has been, and will always be, to act in the best interests of the team and its supporters. We have endeavoured to navigate the difficulties presented by media scrutiny and splinter groups with dignity and resolve.

“We thank you for your continued loyalty and support during these difficult times.”
