Salford Red Devils name 18-man squad for final fixture ahead of uncertain off-season

Salford Red Devils have named their squad for what could be the team’s final game in Super League, with Paul Rowley’s side hosting Wakefield Trinity on Friday night.

It’s set to be an emotional affair with Salford seemingly doomed to be relegated from Super League given their failure to apply for a position next season.

The Red Devils’ only chance now is that their IMG score is enough to retain a spot in Super League, but with Salford ranked 12th last year and set to lose points on performance and possibly other pillars, it’s near certain they will drop out of the competition.

From there, the future is very unclear with the club still facing a winding-up petition from HMRC with debts believed to be well over half a million pounds at this stage.

With so much uncertainty and the weight of finally reaching the end of a torrid season set to be lifted, it’s expected Friday’s clash with Wakefield will be an emotional one.

Paul Rowley has only been able to name an 18-man squad with Kai Morgan, Sam Hill, Dan Russell and Neil Tchamambe dropping out of the squad.

Loghan Lewis returns after his one-game suspension whilst Nene Macdonald looks set for a second straight appearance after his shock return last week.

Hull KR trio Louix Goman, Leon Ruan and Rowan Milnes are all named once again with Tiaki Chan, Toby Warren and Jack Darbyshire being the three other loanees.

Wakefield Trinity team news

Daryl Powell’s side will have to combat all the emotion of the night as they still have a job to do. Win and they’re in the play-offs, making the top six following their promotion last year.

Of course, should Hull FC lose to Catalans on Thursday night then Wakefield’s spot in the six would already be secure but Powell’s side will want to carry momentum into the play-offs anyway.

As such, they’ve named an unchanged squad from the one named ahead of their incredible win over Hull KR.
