There’s lots of uncertainty surrounding Salford Red Devils of late but a senior figure has returned to the fray in the latest development.
Former Chief Executive Officer Paul King has formally returned to a role with the club, with that move now being confirmed by government website Companies Houses.
King has been registered as a director of the struggling Super League side with that appointment confirmed today on the 30th June 2025.
The 59-year-old is the second person appointed to a director role this month along with Mr Steven Lawrence Englander, following the earlier termination of Kurt Graver who had only been appointed to the role in early March after the new ownership took over.
Graver was only officially added to the club’s accounts three days after King’s official exit in March, though Chris Irwin had been appointed as CEO when the new owners took over in early February creating a situation where King’s role was unclear.
Commenting at the time, Paul Rowley praised the former CEO: “Whether he stays or leaves, I’m not privy to that. As far as I’m concerned, he’s still part of this club and he’s got my handshake any time I see him.”
Paul King officially reappointed at Salford Red Devils
It’s been an elongated saga with Salford Red Devils with the two latest chapters being the fact that players were paid ‘late’ in June, as well as confirmation that the HMRC winding-up order was adjourned.
Salford’s players were actually paid by the end of the month, however, they were not paid on the last Thursday of the month which has been the custom at the club.
That final Thursday came just days after the Red Devils were down in London to face a HMRC winding-up order over unpaid debts believed to be over £500,000.
HMRC have adjourned that with the club hopeful of securing a bridging loan which will bring the cash influx necessary to repay debts and put the Red Devils back in a far stronger and more stable position financially.
BBC Sport Manchester had reported that the HMRC meeting had been adjourned until September with the club “confident” that their bridging loan will land in the coming days.
The Red Devils played on Sunday against St Helens with Salford boss Paul Rowley lamenting the 58-0 loss as one where his side did not apply themselves correctly.
