Salford Red Devils have confirmed forward Loghan Lewis will be unavailable for a few more months after undergoing surgery last week. Lewis is yet to play this season after struggling with a troublesome hip and groin injury.
He underwent surgery to resolve the issue last week, though, and he will miss a chunk of the season as he sets out on the path towards recovery. His eventual return will be a welcome one for head coach Paul Rowley, with Salford finding themselves short of senior options in the pack on a number of occasions this season.
Lewis is one of several senior figures off contract at the Salford Community Stadium, alongside the likes of Jack Ormondroyd, Chris Hankinson and Jayden Nikorima. As such, he’ll be keen to find form quickly and make an impact upon his return to action in order to secure his future.
Salford will be hoping he can hit the ground running when he’s back fit, too, as they continue to struggle at the wrong end of the Super League table.
Loghan Lewis’ Salford Red Devils connection
Lewis joined Salford a year ago this month, with the Red Devils plucking him from Canberra Raiders’ New South Wales Cup ranks and offering him a short-term deal. The forward immediately impressed Salford fans and he went on to make 11 appearances for the club last season.
In that time he did enough to win the club’s Hitman of the Year award, as voted for by supporters, and earn himself another year long deal.
Speaking about his time at Salford after agreeing a new deal, he said: “I’ve obviously loved every second of being at this club during the short time I’ve been here – from the coaches to the boys and the fans.
“The last three months have exceeded any and all expectations I had coming over here, and I am over the moon to run it back again next year.”
