Salford Red Devils confirm forward’s loan exit in latest departure

Salford Red Devils forward Jamie Pye has returned to Championship club Barrow Raiders on loan, the Super League club have confirmed.

Pye spent the opening few months of the season with the Raiders after being loaned out by Salford in January for the season. However, the prop was recalled by the Red Devils earlier this month as Paul Rowley found himself short of senior options.

He featured for the Red Devils in round seven against Leeds Rhinos and he has since provided cover at the Salford Community Stadium. However, the club now feel comfortable enough to let Pye make the move back to Cumbria, with Salford having the right to recall him once more after two weeks.

The prop has made eight appearances for Barrow this season with his debut coming in the Challenge Cup loss to Oldham. He has since helped the club to four wins and he’ll be looking to add to that tally this weekend when the club travel to Batley Bulldogs.

Barrow have enjoyed a strong start to the Championship season and after eight games they sit second, behind league leaders Halifax Panthers, ensuring the Raiders will be favourites to pick up the points this weekend.

“When Jamie was first recalled by Salford, there was an understanding that he could return to us later in the season, should the opportunity arise,” Barrow director of rugby Andy Gaffney told the club website.

“I’m grateful for the cooperation of everyone at Salford in allowing us to bring Jamie back to the club.

“He started the season in excellent form and made himself a really important part of our side in the early rounds.

“At a time when we have some injuries to key forwards, Jamie’s return is a real boost.”
