Salford Red Devils assistant coach Krisnan Inu has this week backed the club’s owners to work the current situation at the club out and argued that “their intentions have always been for the club”. He also added that Salford fans could receive more communications from them as early as this week.
Salford are currently under the ownership of Saia Kailahi and Kurtiz Brown, after they took over the club on the eve of the Super League season. Kailahi is a friend of Inu’s since they were young, and it is reported the assistant boss played a role in getting them to join the club.
Inu, filling in for Paul Rowley in his weekly press conference ahead of Sunday’s match against Wakefield, has stated his support for the group, backing them to lead the club to the heights they have reached over the last five years.
He said: “The way I see it, if they didn’t come, I think we would have folded a long time ago, which is no surprise to anyone.
“Their intentions have always been for the club and the community, for the people and the community, that has never changed.”
The 38-year-old was asked by the media whether patience was key, and if he believes they are the right people for the job, that fans should just remain calm and wait until things get back on track.
“Patient could be the word, but obviously there’s a lot of frustration and everyone’s in different positions. At the same time, when all the media sort of keep throwing punches at our club, it sort of hurts everyone, not just the players. They’re two humans as well. Everyone keeps naming them and putting their heads on sticks and throwing them under fire and whatnot. I see them working hard, but obviously the fans don’t see it.
“I see what they are trying to do for the club is massive and like you said patience might be the word, but at the same time, there is a lot of frustration and when people start talking about people getting paid late and whatnot, we’re all apart of that, I’m no different to the other staff.
Salford Red Devils coach addresses fan protest
Salford Red Devils fans have planned a peaceful protest during their match on Sunday, as a was of opposing the new ownership as they want them out of the club.
Whilst Inu did not give an opinion on the protest, formed by a group of fans called ‘The 1873‘, he was asked to give a message to the disgruntled fans.
“I don’t know. It’s hard to say, everyone deals with the frustration [differently]. There’s a lot of things that I know that I can’t speak about… but, I don’t know. I love our fans. They’re real passionate, real supportive as as a player they were second to none as a player and now that I’m part of the coaching staff.
“I do feel for them, but there’s a lot of things that like you said, there are some answers that need to be presented to them, which I think will be happening before Sunday. I can’t say if that protest is right or wrong, but at the same time I think there will be something done between now and Sunday.”
