Salford Red Devils head coach Paul Rowley has refused to comment on whether his players and staff would be paid on time, after missed and late payments have been a recurring theme over the season.
Due to the ongoing saga with the current owners, Rowley refused to comment on whether player and staff wages would be delivered on time.
This week has seen key events occur in the rugby league world, with the transfer deadline set for tomorrow, August 28, and the deadline for clubs to submit their interest in formulating an application ahead of the expansion to 14 Super League teams in 2026.
As always, Rowley kept his cards close to his chest on the big topics surrounding Salford and their future.
When asked whether Salford had received any special dispensation to the transfer deadline, the Red Devils boss said he had no clue around any “administration” that goes on at the club.
“I’m not sure,” he said. “Obviously just coaching the team and getting people here has been enough in terms of phone calls. The administration isn’t my job.”
Salford Red Devils boss addresses Super League future after application deadline reached
Today, Hull FC announced that they will be one of 12 teams that will apply for Super League status for 2026, as mere precaution. Salford were ranked 12th in the most recent gradings, and given their current woes across the season they could drop even further, meaning their place in the top division isn’t secure.
The question was asked whether, Salford have put in an expression of interest, which Rowley again said he didn’t know. However, he did mention that should the club sort their finances out, there is no reason why they can’t remain in the top flight.
“I don’t know, I wouldn’t know. It’s a question for Paul King.” he said.
“Do I believe they will or can, probably two different questions. Salford is a city, it’s a proud city. With money, I guess you had a very strong argument as to why they should be. Without money, then you have a strong argument as to why it shouldn’t be.”

Try asking for the hat to be passed around………….
The main question is – who has a hat with deep, deep pockets? We know that nobody in Salford possesses any head gear………..
