An emotional Paul Rowley has spoken after his Salford Red Devils side landed an incredible 25-12 win against Warrington Wolves.
Priced as large as 28/1 ahead of the game, Salford landed the upset of the season as they beat Warrington Wolves and added more pressure to Sam Burgess as his side lost a fourth game in five.
For Salford, it was just their third win of the Super League season but it was thoroughly deserved as they played a poor Warrington off the park, much to the adoration of the travelling Red Devils fans.
Those fans had organised a march ahead of the game protesting the club’s ownership and whilst the owners were booed when their faces came on the big screen, the boos at full-time were from the Warrington fans.
Instead, the Salford end was full of support for their side after an incredible win and head coach Paul Rowley talked about the emotion of the win when speaking post-match to Sky Sports.
“I’m emotional really. I was emotional last week for the Leigh game and it’s because of the fans who are just connecting everybody,” explained Rowley.

Rowley’s emotions would see him continue to hail the fans and Salford as a club, talking about the ‘soul’ of the Red Devils and the sport of rugby league.
“There’s life in this club, there’s soul in this club, and that’s pretty important to our game. A game that prides itself on giving kids an opportunity, that’s not elitist. You don’t need money to play this game.
“These boys and this club, I think this is what rugby league is about – them guys right here, them supporters.”
Asked if if among the biggest wins of his career, Rowley explained that it’s different as he once again paid tribute to the fans and the club as a whole.
He explained: “It’s different because it’s about the fans, this win is all about Salford showing what Salford’s got, the soul and the spirit. There’s so much soul in this club and they bring a lot and I can’t thank the fans and the players enough.”
Rowley continued: “It’s got spirit, it’s alive, it’s kicking. It’s been an awful year, nobody can deny that but last week I got to chat a little bit more about rugby and today I’ve not got sympathy and everyone’s talking about rugby.
“That’s what I want to do. I want to compete, these boys want to compete, the fans want to compete. It’s a proud city full of proud people and it’s been a good day.”
On the week leading up to the game, he said: “It’s been as normal as it’s been. I wouldn’t say totally normal as some players only turned up today. What we’ve seen and what we always do at this club is we let characters be characters and people relax into the group real quick and they learn how to have fun while still returning an awful lot of belief.
“We came here with belief, a bunch of strangers came her with belief and we came here expecting to win and that’s how we roll. It might sound crazy but that’s what sport is all about.”
