Castleford Tigers boss Ryan Carr has assessed his side’s 34-28 defeat at the hands of Catalans Dragons.
After back-to-back wins over York and St Helens, Carr’s men have now lost two after falling short against Leigh and now Catalans.
After being 34-12 down, Tigers were able to bring the scores back to 34-28, but couldn’t complete the comeback, with the deficit too big to overcome.
Krystian Mapapalangi scored twice, whilst tries also came for Jason Qareqare, Joe Stimson and debutant Jack Brown, but it wouldn’t be enough to claim the win over John Cartwright’s men.
He said to Sky Sports: “You can’t concede 34 points and expect yourself to win. The possession was 60-40 for the majority of the game, and when it swung back we started to build our points.
“There were probably just a few moments that cost us”
As with most weeks this year, discipline was Castleford’s kryptonite, with the side consistently being unable to bounce back after making errors and conceding penalties.
Carr said that once again that was what contributed to the defeat, revealing: “I thought we defended really well today. I know we conceded a few points, but I felt like we tackled as good as we’ve tackled in a long time.
“I thought our line speed was great. You’re on half way and you’re about to get the ball back and then you strip the ball and give them a penalty. It’s just unacceptable at this level.
“Good teams are going to punish you for it, and unfortunately that’s what happened to us tonight.”
He added: “We can score points. We’re a good attacking team when we’re on the same page and going after it.
“I was really happy with our effort levels tonight. It’s tough to travel over here, and I felt like the team went after it today, but that’s one that I think that we missed tonight.”
